We utilize our 39′ Pearson sloop Gallivant for most on-water classes.
Our Philosophy:
Students must have the opportunity to sail on a sailboat that sails well. This is especially important to the beginning sailor. Once students have seen how a well-designed sailboat performs, they know what is possible and can decide better what sailboats to charter or purchase. Many other sailing schools utilize sailboats that do not sail well because they are not designed for performance. These sailboats are slow, won’t sail upwind well, and won’t back straight, making docking difficult. Few other cruising sailboats can match the performance of our Pearson 39.
History of Gallivant:
Gallivant has been completely redone and is kept in top condition. The hull was sandblasted and is repainted whenever needed, and all stations are rebedded. The old electronics were replaced with a Ray Marine Axiom 12-inch GPS/Chart Plotter/Ray Marine Radar. The bimini and dodger are kept in excellent condition. All port lights and hatch windows are replaced with new ones as needed. A Mack Sails Mainsail with full battens and Mack Pack was added in 2021, and a Rolly Tasker new Genoa in 2024. All brightwork and flooring are maintained in excellent condition. All standing and running rigging are in excellent condition. The Yanmar 3JH40 engine is new as of 2018. A Nextgen CMI-3.5 kW generator was added in 2022. Gallivant has also been set up for ocean sailing with Revere Life Raft, storm head sail, Solar panels ($2024), and EPIRB. Lofans Tigress horizontal windlass rebuilt 2023 with two CQR anchors with 125-foot chain and 100-foot line—all interior and exterior cushions in excellent condition. In short, Gallivant is in great condition.
