Class Description:
ASA103 Basic Coastal Cruising- Delmarva Sailing School students complete ASA103 Basic Coastal Cruising while sailing to fun overnight destinations like Annapolis, Bodkin Creek, Baltimore, or Galesville and return.
Other sailing schools require their ASA103 Basic Coastal Cruising students to return to the home marina at the end of the day, so they don’t cruise to destinations until they take ASA104 Bareboat Cruising.
Delmarva Sailing School’s ASA103 Basic Coastal Cruising class is a two-day, all on-the-water, live aboard program, where students learn to skipper a sloop-rigged auxiliary powered keelboat by day in moderate winds and sea conditions.
Learn boat systems, boat handling, safety and seamanship skills (Anchor snubbing, how to fix a winch override, how to properly coil lines, etc.). Learn cruising sailboat terminology, auxiliary engine operation, docking procedures, basic use of electronics and instrumentation, intermediate sail trim, reefing skills, heaving to, basic navigation, navigation rules, anchoring, mooring ball pickup, weather analysis, and more knot tying.
Class size: 3-4 typically with a maximum of five students allowed.
Prerequisites: ASA101. ASA102 not required.
